The Baka Boyz and Timbaland

Let me say now this is the best Timbaland interview I've ever heard of the many I've come across throughout the years and you'll be be hard pressed to find it anywhere else but The Chronicles. This interview is from Memorial Day 2006 in Miami on the Baka Boyz radio show. If you don't already know, the Baka Boyz are a legendary radio VJ duo. I used to listen to them way back on Power 106 in Los Angeles. They then moved to Miami to start their own show before moving again to San Diego where they are based out of now. Tim has had a good friendship with these two throughout the years. Go check your liner notes on "Throwback" off Under Construction II and you'll see the Baka (er) Boyz listed for Scratch Cuts.

So back to this interview. First thing you'll notice is that's it's long but I assure you it's well worth it. There are so many highlights it's hard to list them all but here are a few (not in order):

1. Tim gives the world premiere of Kiley Dean's "Cross The Line", explains the concept of "Make Me A Song," and calls her "one of the coldest white girls"
2. Tim premieres "Cop That Disc"
3. Tim talks about the sample from Bubba's "Jimmy Mathis" as well as the drums from "Cop That Shit" (Czar you listening?)
4. Tim makes 3 beats live on the air all on a Triton right there at the station. 1st one Mr. Cheeks stops by the studio and freestyles over it. 2nd one all I can say is listen, both Tim and Cheeks freestyle on it. It's the last one, though, that steals the show with Afrika Baby Bam from the legendary Jungle Brothers freestyling with Timbo doing his beatboxing and showing why he is the king.

Now of course that would be enough to satisfy even the biggest Timbo fan, believe me after listening to the whole interview it would be enough, but this is The Chronicles and we got to give you more. Somewhere (I'm not saying where) in the interview Tim plays a never before heard Tim track that was never released on this artist's final project (possibly because of this interview?). It's been argued if it ever really exsisted but this interview is proof. Take a listen to the whole:

  4. since ya seem to follow timbo every word on here..i hope PEOPLE LISTEN WHEN HE SAID STOP JUDGING THE MUSIC SO HARD..SIT BACK RELAX AND JUST LISTEN....it seems everbody on the net is a critic these days...who did whats..who ghostproduced..king court this..danja this....just enjoy the art,cuz unless we are all there nobody knows the truth of who does what..being a person in the biz,i have seen producers buy beats from all over and out they name on it...timbo might get a beat from king court..but he may not know king court got the beat from joe smoo around the corner..and joe smoo got it from his lil bro.....so you cant trace the origin of a beat,so dont try unless you are there...i see a lot of good music getting dissed on here cuz of people being arm chair critics...

  5. um you can still enjoy the music while wondering who produced what. i don't care if tim bought beats from whoever, that's 100% fine. it's fun to hear from new producers, too.

  6. i feel u nick...but reading comments it seems a lot of people are strong critics these days, and have harsh views if the producers repeat themselves for business purpose ,if daja or king court does it,its a mortal sin but if tim does it which he has been doing all his career, its cool!..and if it has tim name on it and it doesnt sound like his typical stuff,,then people go..oh that must be royal court,so i dont like it as much....but i guess thats life..to love kobe, you gotta hate shaq..huh! my point its all basketball....music is music regards who does it..i like all royal court, all danja, all tim...what people dont understand royal court doesnt sound all the same..ITS THE CLUTH WRITTING SONGS THAT SOUND LIKE THAT...AND HAVING THE SINGERS SING IN THE SAME KEYS(BOBBY V,MARIO,....),

  7. IM SAYING THE SAME THING TIMBO SAID! STOP BEING SO HARD ON THE MUSIC..RELAX! HEARING PEOPLE SAY ROYAL COURT IS THE WORSTH THING FOR TIMBO ,OR DANJA AINT NOTHIN WITH OUT TIM....IF ITS NOT THE BUBBA SPARKS TIM STYLE ITS WACK...PEOPLE TALKING LIKE THAT

  8. royal court is the shit, so is danja. i agree. it's interesting to know who's doing what, because now my ear's a little bit more keen to each producer's style. the slow, bass-heavy, double-time percussion r&b beats are royal court, and the synth-heavy, techno-influenced, simple drum beats are danja.....most of the time.

  10. U RIGHT NICK...IT SEEM THE MORE URBAN STUFF COMING OUTTA TIMBO CAMP ISNT WELL RECEIVED .THE MORE SOULFUL STUFF.I GUESS THE GOOD ABOUT THE NET IS ITS INFORMING PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELF HOW TO CRITIC A PRODUCERS WORK,WHICH KEEPS US PRODUCERS ON OUR TOES TO REALLY BE CREATIVE.,BUT WHEN IT GETS TO THE POINT CUZ WE DIDNT USE YOUR FAVORITE SNARE YOU DONT TAKE TIME TO FEEL THE SONG...THEN THATS WHAT TIME WAS TALKING ABOUT,OR I USED THATS SNARE ON MY LAST HIT,SO IM REPEATING MYSELF OR FALLIN OFF..YALL LISTENING TO CLOSE,LOL

  11. how about you stop lecturing us?

    ReplyDelete
  12. POINT PROVEN..ITS OK FOR YOU TO BE A CRITIC..BUT I CANT LECTURE WITH FACTS..FOR ALL YOU KNOW I COULD BE TIMBALAND,OR DANJA, U DONT KNOW WHO READS YALL COMMENTS...I MUS HAVE STRUCK A NERVE TO GET THAT RESPONSE...IM DONE ANYWAYS I SAID MY PART,I JUST WANTED TO GENERATE SOME DIALOG ON THE SUBJECT...TO HELP ME UNDERSTAND THE COUCH CRITIC/ OR THE MODAY MORNING QAURTERBACK AS THEY SAY IN THE BIZ...YOU DONT PLAY IN THE GAME,U WATCH ON TV..BUT KNOW WHAT SHOULD OR SHOUNT BE DONE IN THE GAME,LOL GOODBYE

  13. For real, stop the caps lock.

And don't automatically think that people don't like a song just b/c it's Royal Court. Some people straight up don't like the Royal Court's style. And some people straight up don't like what Danja does, not because he's not Timbo, but because they just plain don't like it.

As for me, I like most of what all these producers come up with. Some songs I love. Some songs I really don't feel at all...for WHATEVER reason. And that's life. Deal with it.

  14. caps off....good point tho! explain when people say oh i hate that track it must be royal court cuz its too melodic for tim...as if they know tim doesnt do melodic stuff, maybe thats the stuff he does that never makes the cds,we dont know..but to assume its royal court is a lil judgemental...polow da don said he does regular stuff too,but people always pick the wildest craziest tracks..

  15. It's not too much to assume a track is Royal Court if the exact sounds and overall flavor are the same as previous Royal Court productions. I know what you mean, though.
