Will I Am says Gimme More

******** Britney Spears new single Gimme More leaked to the internet this morning and MTV News wanted to get some expert opinion, and who better to give his verdict than Black Eyed Peas mainman and producer for Nas, The Game, Common and Pussycat Dolls - Will I Am? When we gave him a pair of headphones for his first listen he gave it a thumbs up saying: “It’s Dope!” Continuing, Will - whose own solo album is out this Autumn - told us: "I’ve gotta listen to it in a club (though). It’s a club song.” Then he asked about Spears’ first post rehab single: “I like the beat. Who did it, Pharrell?” And of course we had to inform him it was Timbaland’s second-in-command Nate Hills. Anyway you heard it here first Britney’s back with a club banger! If Will said so it must be true. ********

Britney Spears "Gimmie More"

We've been talking about it and now here it is. The track is written by Keri Hilson and Jim Beanz. Beanz is also featured on the track and is the vocal producer. Check it out:

Britney Spears "Gimmie More" produced by Danja

And remember the track "Get Back" we talked of awhile ago that was supposdely also produced by Danja? As it turns out it's an entirely different track called "Cold As Fire (The Yeah Song) and it's produced by T-Pain:

"Cold As Fire (The Yeah Song) produced by T-Pain

I never been a Britney fan what so ever but Danja (and T Pain for that matter) definitely gave the girl some MUCH needed heat for her comeback project. Let's hope the album continues in the same vain. HUGE props to Kali Aira the biggest Spears fan on the net :)

Thoughts?

Duran Duran's Red Carpet Massacre

Here's a behind the scenes video of the making of the album:

And in case you didn't hear "Night Runner", (produced by Timbaland) "Skin Divers", (produced by Timbaland) and "Falling Down" (produced by Justin Timberlake) yet, you can listen to all 3 right here just scroll down. The countdown has officially begun on Duran Duran's website for the November 13th US release of the album. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing the entire thing.

Kanye West-Stronger (Timbaland Version?)

Here's the version of "Stronger" on Kanye West's recently leaked CD, "Graduation", supposedly revamped by Tim. It's true that the drums are different and harder hitting, and there are choral vocals towards the end (reminiscent of Tim's recent style) but as no liner notes have been leaked, this is not 100% confirmed.

Timbaland & The Game Sued

It looks as though Timbaland's sampling woes have hit a snag again. Saregama, one of India's largest recording companies, is suing Timbaland, Danja, Universal, Aftermath, G-Unit, Czar Entertainment, Timbaland's Virginia Beach Music and The Game's Black Wall Street imprint for an undisclosed amount. The issue is over Lata Mangeshkar & Mohammad Rafi's "Bagon Mein Bhar" sample that was used by Tim and Danja for The Game's 4th single "Put You On The Game" from his album The Documentary. Saregama claims the song violated copyrights owned by the company, which owns 50% of all music ever recorded in India. Saregama should sound familiar as they also sued Dr Dre and DJ Quik over the sample used in the Truth Hurt's smash hit "Addictive".

More

How do you all feel about this? Do you feel that Timbaland is being unrightfully chosen, due to his fame or stature, as a producer that violates copywritten laws with his sampling? Or do you feel that if Timbaland isn't going to credit his samples then he is breaking copyright laws and can be sued? Let us know!

Britney Spears and Danja coming September

Previously reported on The Chronicles we talked about a Britney/Danja track called "Get Back" and what looked like a video being shot for the track as well. It looks as though the track has now been changed to "Gimmie More" and may be released for promotion only to get Spears new sound and name back out to the masses. Here's a couple articles on it:

****The first single from Britney Spears' long-awaited fifth studio album will debut as soon as next week, EW.com has learned — and it's not this or this, the two supposed Britney tracks that leaked online at perezhilton.com last week.

A source who's heard the single says it's called ''Gimme More,'' an up-tempo club cut produced by Timbaland protégé Nate ''Danjahandz'' Hills (Justin Timberlake, T.I.). ''Gimme More'' was also reported as the name of the music video that Spears was spotted shooting in July. (Representatives for Jive, Spears' label, did not return calls seeking comment.) ''People are going to love [the new single],'' raved the source. ''It's like when Justin came back [with FutureSex/LoveSounds] — she's got a whole new sound. She's funky.''*****

Source

****A new Britney Spears track, "Gimme More," is expected to hit the airwaves next week, according to sources at Jive Records. The up-tempo cut, produced by Timbaland right-hand-man Nate "Danjahandz" Hills, will appear on Spears' new album, but sources say it has yet to be decided whether it will be the official lead single or simply a setup track.

Spears is known to have worked with J.R. Rotem and Sean Garrett on as-yet-unnamed tracks. "I've got this one record I've been holding for 10 months that everyone has tried to buy, but I stayed with Britney on it," Garrett told Billboard in late June. "I guarantee it will shake up the world. It's uptempo, out of control ... it's wowzers, produced by me and Bloodshy."****

Source

Now while Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, and even Perez Hilton will give you the basics of the what's going on with the track, The Chronicles will give you a little extra. The track is scheduled to be released earlly September and is written by Keri Hilson and Jim Beanz. Of course take a wild guess who the vocal producer is? Yes none other than my man Beanz! As soon as we get a copy you'll be the first to hear it.

Timbaland to work with Omarion and Bow Wow

O and Bow Weezy as he calls himself now are working on a new project called Face Off set to be released December 4th. One of the tracks "Designated Driver" has already leaked on the net. They want to keep the project fun while accomplishing the same chemistry as Jay Z and R. Kelly had (pre-concert that is). "We respect what R. Kelly and Jay-Z did, but that was what they created," Omarion explained about the comparisons between Face Off and Jay-Z and R. Kelly's Best of Both Worlds. "What we created is Bow and O. The topics most people think we wouldn't talk about, we're talking about." "In the past, we would make a song like we're gonna take this girl to the restaurant Nobu," Bow elaborated. "Now it's gonna be, we take this girl to Nobu, then I'm gonna take her back to the Trump Towers and I'm gonna put her in my bed and I'm gonna tell you what I'm gonna do to the girl when she's in my bed."

Schedulued to be working with the duo are R. Kelly, T-Pain, Lil' Ronnie (who produced "I'm A Flirt") and Timbaland. More guest artists and producers are planned for the album through the next coming months. Notably absent is long time Bow Wow mentor Jermaine Dupri. Bow Wow wants to step out on his own, creating a new sound and bringing a new vibe for Bow Wow fans. JD has been nothing but supportive of the duo. "I had a vision of where it should be," JD said. "[Bow] and O, they wasn't really on it. They wanted to cater to a different crowd this time. They getting older, and I guess they felt I was gonna keep them in the same spot and cater to their fans — which I was. I don't believe in fixing something that ain't broke. We continue to sell records like that. But sometimes an artist feel they wanna do something different, so I felt it was time to say, 'OK, I'mma let them do it. Y'all got a vision, y'all done talked, y'all two are kicking it more than me, and I'mma let y'all do your thing.' I'm not one to hold nobody up from what they wanna do. I got a gang of other sh-- I can be doing. I let them breathe. As young men, that's what you need. At some point, you gotta have that. You could see what other people be going through and how much work it takes. This makes them think a lot harder."

I have a feeling that despite the fact that Timbaland is scheduled to work with these guys, The Royal Court will be the producers behind any tracks for them. We'll have to wait and see.

Artist Update: Jim Beanz

If you aren't familiar with Jim Beanz yet I highly suggest you get to know him. The dude is going to be a MAJOR force to reckon with as he continues his vocal, writing, and production domination. "Da Millennium Kid" is with the Sunset Entertainment Group (along with Amar) and has steadily made a himself into a household name. Noted for his exquisite vocal production, amazing voice, on point writing skills, and high quality production, Jim Beanz is on this way to being the next best all around artist.

Check your liner notes: that's Beanz on Nelly's "Maneater", "Promiscuous", "No Hay Igual", ""Say It Right", and "All Good Things" as well as being the sole vocal producer for the album. That's Beanz who co-wrote and vocal produced Danity Kane's "Want It" and "Right Now". Diddy's "After Love" is co-written by Beanz. Check M.I.A's "Come Around" yes there's Beanz again as the vocal producer. That's Beanz who co-produced Shakira's "Animal House." That's Beanz credited as vocal producer for Katherine McPhee's "Dangerous", "Open Toes", and "Neglected". The man is everywhere! The man is everywhere!

Beanz is on Tim's Shock Vaue too. He did vocal production on "Release" and background vocals on "Come and Get Me." What sealed the deal for me on what an amazing talent Jim Beanz is has to be the end of "Bombay" where he goes out of his mind with all those layers of vocals.

Then there's Beanz work with Timbo on projects by Duran Duran, Dima Bilan, and Keri HIlson on tracks some of which we've heard and some of which are coming up. Plus there's all the projects from Beanz/Timbo we haven't and may never hear including work with Fergie, JC Chasez, HIlary Duff, and Gwen Stefani.

And Beanz isn't stopping there. He has projects coming up with Amar, a new artist from the UK Lemar, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake's 1st artist Esmee, Debroah Cox, and Kylie Minogue. He also will have at least 2 tracks on Ashanti's next album. Remember the Samantha Jade tracks we talked about a few days ago? Jim Beanz co-produced "Eyez On Me" with Timbaland as well as another track called "Make You Love Me" with Timbo and King of The Royal Court.

The biggest news though, that we bring you exclusively on The Chronicles, is Jim Beanz worked with Jennifer Hudson in London along with Timbaland and Hannon Lane. Jim assisted on her 1st single called "Pocketbook" featuring Ludacris. I'm telling you do not sleep on this guy. He is very well respected by many in the industry and it's more than obvious that people are appreciating all the talents he has to offer. Be on the lookout for more from the multi-talented Jim Beanz.

Timbaland gets down with Fashion TV

Is Timbaland going back to his roots? Seems as though he's being asked for not only his skills as a producer but as a DJ as well. Along with his tour overseas he's also had a series of club shows he's been doing all over Europe with his DJ Freestyle Steve. Now it seems Fasion TV wants Timbo there to celebreate their 10-year anniversary. Here's the article:

Remembering Aaliyah 6 years later

6 years ago today the world tragically lost one of the most talented, inspiring, and creative souls who ever lived. Her potential had no bounds and the possibilities of what she was capable of were endless. Yet instead of looking at what she could have achieved, it's important to look at what she left us with. Her timeless music, her beauty beyond words, and a charisma that could be felt throughout the world are just a few of the gifts she shared during her life with us. Aaliyah you touched so many of us during your time in this world and we continue to honor your legacy each in our own way. Rest In Peace baby girl.

Here are Boogie's personal Aaliyah favorites:

"Heartbroken" (my favorite Aaliyah track of all time)

"At Your Best (Remix)

"If Your Girl Only Knew (Remix)

"Hot Like Fire" (Timbaland's Groove Mix)

"I Don't Wanna"

"4 Page Letter" (Timbaland's Main Mix)

If you have a story to tell about Aaliyah please feel free to share.

Unsolved Mystery: Beyonce's "Timbaland Remix"

You want another mystery? Let Boogie give you one involving an apparent collabo between Beyonce, Timbaland, Voltio and/or Fabolous. A couple months ago I was told about a remix by Timbaland for Beyonce's "Get Me Bodied" featuring Voltio, a reggaeton artist signed with Epic. Despite it being tagged a Timbaland remix, I dismissed the track as a fake since I couldn't find anything on it and it just didn't seem like a possibility considering we'd heard nothing in the news from either the Timbo or Beyonce camps about it up to that point and let's be honest it doesn't sound like a Tim track whatsoever.

For the next month, I kept being asked about this track and I responded time and time again that it was a fake but as more and more news about the track kept popping up, I figured it must be mislabled and people are just jumping on the "Timbaland remix" bandwagon which happens all the time. It wasn't until very recently that someone (thanks Jonathan!) once again mentioned the track and this time when I looked for information I didn't just find the track, I found a video for the remix, labled a Timbaland remix, on MTV.

Could MTV have gotten it wrong? They must have I thought, there's no way this is a Timbaland beat. So I continued my digging and found out that the track is being released on a new all spanish Beyonce EP called Irremplazable and that Walmart would be selling the CD with an exclusive DVD that had the Timbaland remix on it on August 28th. After more digging, yes it was true I found the CD on Walmart's website but the track listing did not include any mention of the Timbaland remix. So MTV did get it wrong........or did they?

Continuing with my digging, I found the "Express Pack" (whatever that means) of the EP on Walmart's website that did indeed list the Timbaland remix. So that should be enough right? There's the facts right there on Walmart's site and there's the album ready to be pre-ordered with the Timbo remix so it looks like I missed a very big Tim track. Actually let's look at the proof, here's the Timbaland remix video for Beyonce's "Irreplacable" featuring Voltio.

BUT WAIT come on now that would be too easy, it's The Chronicles we love conspiracy theories....

So here are my questions: Is the Voltio remix done by Timbaland? True Voltio was worked with Beyonce before on her "Check On It" remix but why doesn't his website or myspace have any mention of the remix? You're an artist who just did a remix with Beyonce and Timbaland, wouldn't you have that type of promotion front and center on everything especially with the release of the EP only days away??

The real twist though is that there is another remix to this track featuring Fabolous that sounds exactly like the Voltio remix. On some sites the Fab featured remix is listed as the Timbaland remix and on some it's the Voltio one. There's even a slightly different video for the Fab remix than the one featuring Voltio. How did Voltio get on the official release of the remix but not a more established artist like Fab? Why is neither Fab or Voltio in the video rather just rhyming on it?

Straight up: I don't think Tim did the remix despite what is being said all over the net including MTV, Walmart, etc. This seems a bit odd to me and you know how much I love a good mystery. It looks as though on August 28th I'll be heading to Walmart and buying the CD/DVD and seeing what the liner notes have to say. Maybe I'll be eating my words we'll see. What do you all think?

Samantha Jade and Timbaland

You all have been hitting me up a lot this last month or so asking me to create a list for Tim's future productions. You spoke I listened so if you haven't checked it out yet definitely go to the link section but for now look here. You can listen to the current versions of the tracks leaked and be sure to let me know if you have any changes or additions.

One track that has been on the list since I first created it is Samantha Jade's "Eyes On Me" produced by Timbaland with either co-production or writing credits by Ryan Tedder of One Republic . The track was origianlly to be her 1st single off her debut album but it has since been replaced with "Turn Around". Up till this point "Eyes On Me" was the only known track she did with Timbaland but it seems as though she actaully did 2 tracks along with working with other A list producers. Check out this article:

****“It’s gonna be a good album!” she beams. “I’ve worked on it for two years, so it’s been a long process, but it’s gonna be great. I’ve been working with some amazing producers. I just worked with Timbaland, which is very exciting for me, ’cause I really loved the Aaliyah stuff and Justin [Timberlake] and Nelly Furtado and all the stuff he’s done. I worked with Lil’ Jon, which was crazy. I worked with Rodney Jerkins, Jazze Pha and Sean Garrett. I’ve been working with people who I look up to – which is sometimes really surreal when you go into the studio.”

That Jade should be allowed studio time with Timbaland, who’s picky about his collaborators, is a coup. She owes the hook-up to a vocal producer.

“I thought I was finished my recording, and three weeks later I got this call, and they were like, ‘Timbaland wants to work with you,’” she exclaims. “I was like, ‘OK, I’ll do that!’ It was just so exciting for me.

“He was on tour with Justin at the time and so we had to fly to Dallas to do the session, and it had to be quite a quick one, but we got two really great songs out of it.”*****

I have a feeling that vocal producer they are talking about is Jim Beanz. If you'd like to know more about Samantha Jade, her story, and her music check out her myspace.

Kanye West & Timbo

******** "I heard 'Stronger' and 'Can't Tell Me Nothing' in a club and they didn't compare to Timbaland's 'The Way I Are'. It's not knocking like a Timbaland joint, so I need to fix that. I need 'Stronger' to be knocking people out of their chair."

Even though a version of "Stronger" has already gone to radio, he's spent the last couple of days tweaking it further. He's now worked on the track with eight different engineers around the world, and recorded over 50 versions. *********

50 different versions? Don't get your hopes up about Tim...

Director's Cut: "The Way I Are"

I like this video a lot better than the original. You can also check out the director Shane Drake's myspace here.

Props to TalkingCrazy the rare Timbo video king!

Duran Duran "Skin Divers"

Keeping the new Timbaland music train going here is another Duran Duran/Timbo track. A lot of you said you were looking forward more to "Skin Divers" than "Night Runner" so here's it is for you to compare:

Duran Duran "Skin Divers"

I am still going to go with "Night Runner" out of the 2 of them. I will admit though I like the sounds (versus the beat) a lot better in this track. For Duran Duran's first single they decided to go with "Falling Down" (co-wrriten and featuring Justin Timberlake) rather than "Night Runner". Big thanks to Macedes for the link.

Tuesday, August 21, 2007

Omarion F/ Kat Deluna "Cut Off Time"

She confirmed it via her myspace video and now here we have it:

Omarion F/ Kat DeLuna "Cut Off Time"

This song sounds exactly like Duran Duran's "Night Runner" part II or another version of Justin's "Sexy Ladies." Add to that the vocal effects are the exact same (including the "she said" lyrics) as NLT's "She Said I Said." The beat works for me with Duran Duran but not this track.

I'm still checking if The Royal Court was involved though my bet says yes.

How do you all feel?

Timbaland joins Missy at VH1 Hip Hop Honors

VH1's Hip Hop Honors is back for another year of acknowledging those who gave contributed to the incredible and ground breaking genre of music we call hip hop. Broadcasting on October 8th, the honorees include Snoop Dogg, Whodini, Missy Elliott, and a just added Tribe Called Quest (my favorite hip hop group of all time). The musical style, New Jack Swing, created by the legendary Teddy Riley will also be honored in addition to the first mainstream hip hop movie Wild Style (check for Sheila E.)

In addition to the honorees there will be performances by T.I. Pharrell Williams, Busta Rhymes, Nick Cannon, Common, The Game, Bow Wow, Eve, Ciara, and Timbaland. If that wasn't enough for all the producers out there you can make the soundtrack for the Hip-Honors show. All you need to do is submit to VH1 a 60 second track that is going to grab people's attnetion. If you're chosen as the winner you get studio time with one of the best musicians of our time ?uestlove from The Roots. Together both of you wil combine forces to make your track into the 2007 show's them. Come on ya'll get in that contest!

Timbaland & Danja name top 5 MCs

I'm sure that you all tuned in to see who MTV voted their current top MCs. As with any list, there was a lot of debate about the choices, the placements of the MCs, and who needed to be taken off and/or added. Well MTV didn't stop there rather they talked to various A-list DJs and producers to get their picks on who they think are the best. Though all of the lists pretty much match the MTV list but in different orders, it's always interesting to see what other people in the game think especially those either playing or making the music these MCs spit to.

Timbaland's:

1. Kanye West
2. Lil Wayne
3. T.I.
4. Common
5. Andre 3000

"I didn't say Jay-Z because I consider Jay [to be one of the greatest MCs]. He would be #1. Kanye is #1 now, because that dude be busting, man. He don't say the average stuff. He says everyday real-life situations."

Danja's:

1. Jay-Z
2. Kanye West
3. Lil Wayne
4. T.I.
5. 50 Cent

Lil' Eazy E "I Got That"

One of the first posts on The Chronicles way back in October was the news that Timbaland was working with Eazy E's son. The article has since been removed but fast forward 10 months and now we get to hear the track they created. Check it out:

Lil' Eazy E "I Got That" featuring Timbaland

Sounds like a T.I. beat, especially the chorus. I'm usually not a big fan of Tim rappin' but I have to admit I like his flow on this track. Hot debut single for the young Eazy. Big props to Jonathan for the link as well as hiphopgame.com for the track. Hopefully the HQ will be out soon.

Czar's Sample of the Week

What's up fellow Tim stans?!?!?! I know it isn't Friday, but I'm just getting back in town, and I thought that I'd do an early/late (depending on how you look at it) sample of the week installment.

But before I go into this week's sample, I need to address some things. First off, I would like to thank everyone who downloaded Volume 8. It was the last one and it meant a lot to be when I got e-mails and stuff like that from people who downloaded the mix and gave me props lol. To answer a question that everyone has been asking, I will not be doing a tracklisting of the samples. I never did a tracklisting for any of my mixes, and I decided to stay with that for my last mix. However, J-Boogie has agreed to try and put together a tracklist for vol 8, so be on the lookout for that. Also, for people who wanted to know why some samples that I initially suggested were going to be on volume 8 were dropped, the reason is kind of complicated. When I put togther a mix, I have a lot samples in the mix, but when I decide to "drop" the mix, myself along with other people who help me with the mix decide to leave some of the samples off. Sometimes it's because I'm undecided if it's the actual sample, sometimes it's because it's an interpolation and not a sample, sometimes it's because I don't have a solid quality version of the sample, and sometimes I just don't feel like that particular sample should be in a certain mix. So I hope that answers why some tracks that were suppose to be on volume 8 didn't make it (and yes, that means there are "unreleased" timbaland sample mixes lol). Lastly, I wanted to give a shout out to J-Boogie for doing the sample of the week last week while I was gone. And now to this week's sample...

Now, for the longest time I wondered what Tim sampled for Aaliyah's "We Need a Resolution." Did he sample an arabic track? Was it based off a Bollywood filmi? Well it turns out that it's neither. The track samples "Tricks of the Trade" off the soundtrack from the 1998 film Incognito. If you go to about 1:26 you'll hear the sample. I still can't believe how Tim chopped it up and made such a classic track like "We Need a Resolution." Now, I can't and won't take the credit for finding this sample (shout out to JAb!!!), but I thought that I would share this will all my Timstans.

That's it for this week's sample of the week. Remember to check back next week for another installment of Czar's Sample of the Week.

Peace,
Czar

Timbaland re-creates Kanye's drums

We've all heard Kanye West's new single "Stronger" but did you know that Timbaland re-did the drums for the album version? Neither did I but it seems Mr. West felt the version he had already recorded of "Stronger" lacked that magic touch and decided call in the king to put his stamp on it. Check this article that reviews Kanye's Graduation album for more details:

****Lyrically the album sees West showcase his improved lyricism but it’s his production that takes centre stage on the second track as Kon’s fragmented flow shadows the beat. "I Wonder is a myriad of sounds intertwined with an addictive sample that evolves over four minutes whilst ‘Ye occasionally responds to the negative barbs that have been thrown his way. Late Registration featured the mother’s day favourite "Hey Mama" and ‘Ye addresses his paternal guardian whilst also aiming to inspire the ‘kids’ with a positive, upbeat joint "Champion".

Even though it’s hit number three in the charts over here and has repeated a similar feat stateside, Kanye still wasn’t happy with Stronger when he heard it in a club alongside Timbaland’s Way I Are which is his favourite beat at the moment. So he dragged Timbo into the studio and got him to redo the drums on the track, ‘for people who look fly’ so we were treated to the new version, though to be honest I didn’t realise there was anything different until West mentioned it.****

Timbo & Missy too creative?

For the first time in how long we actaully get to see the names Missy Elliott and Timbaland in the same sentence. Here's what MTV's Mixtape Monday reported:

****Missy Elliott and Timbaland have an award-winning, multiplatinum history of making albums together, so why does Timbo the King have reservations about going back in the lab with Missy now? The climate of rap. He doesn't know if in the age of the ringtone rapper (those are the acts who have just one hit to offer from their albums and that's it) that fans are ready to digest another Elliott album yet.

"Missy's too over-the-top for this hip-hop," he said last week in New York about the woman he referred to as his sister. "It's a different era, it's not the same. Some of these songs that are out right now [are] songs that I know if we played two, three years ago, people would have laughed at us."****

Despite the "climate of rap" I hope these 2 get in the studio together to create some magic together. It's been too long!

"Czar's Timbaland Sample Mix (Link 1)"

The only thing that caught my attention is when Tim said "I do all the music.....I go into the studio and tweak it, do remixes...." It's these "remixes" I'm after :)

Unsolved Mysteries #1: Timbaland VS. Busta Rhymes

I alluded to mysteries in my last post on purpose as I'm going to try a new idea and see how well it works. The whole Chronicles team doesn't even know about this so let's see what they think. I need your help so the more participation in these mysteries the better. Let's see if you can solve it.....

Mystery:
Did Timbaland or Busta Rhymes give one another the idea to use the Night Rider sample?

Facts:
- Timbaland's "Clock Strikes (Remix)" samples the theme from Night Rider
- Busta Rhymes "Turn It Up (Remix) -Fire It Up" samples the theme from Night Rider
- Busta Rhymes When Disaster Strikes album was released in September of 1997
- Timbaland's Welcome To Our World album was released in November of 1997
- The single "Clock Strikes (Remix)" was released on April 14, 1998.
- The single "Turn It Up (Remix) - Fire It Up" was released on April 21st, 1998.
- Timbaland is credited as the producer of "Clock Strikes (Remix)"
- Busta Rhymes is credited as producer and Spliff Star as co-producer of "Turn It Up (Remix) - Fire It up"

Clues:
- Busta was featured on the Timbaland produced, Missy Elliott album Supa Dupa Fly released in July of 1997
- A friendship is assumed to be made as Busta has worked with Tim off and on over the last 10 years

Can you solve the mystery?

Czar's Sample of the Week

Hey all Boogie here filling in for Czar who is out of town. As you know Czar posted yet another amazing sample mix last week, his 8th in only 4 years which I find incredible. Fully stocked with enough samples to satisfy even the healthiest of Timbo sample appetites Czar shows why again he is who he is. Now he talks of it being his last but I beg to differ. He loves what he does and I even think I may get another sample war out of him (like in 3 years ha!). Well if you haven't had a chance to hear his "final" sample mix 8 here it is:

"Czar's Timbaland Sample Mix (Link 1)"

"Czar's Timbaland Sample Mix (Link 2)"

Now as a padawan of Czar I have a small (very small) inkling of how his mind works. Right when I heard the first track from the mix, I knew he purposely put it there. The track as we all know is Nelly Furtado's "Maneater" Remix F/ Lil' Wayne. Tim uses a beautiful sample in this one that Czar placed first in the mix as a play on words. It's actually the "Opening Credits" track off the Candyman Soundtrack composed by Phillip Glass who Tim has sampled before.

Great find indeed to Czar. To this day a true HQ version of the "Maneater" Remix has never been found. It was a mystery when it was posted and who originally posted it. Perhaps one day but until then enjoy the sample!

Duran Duran "Night Runner"

Finally we get to hear the full somewhat HQ version of Duran Duran's "Night Runner":

"Night Runner" by Duran Duran

I've said it since the beginning, I knew Tim and Danja's 80s vibe would fit Duran Duran perfectly and I stick to what I've been saying. This track is HOT! There's been conflicting reports if this track will be their 1st single or another one produced by Danja. Props to the anonymous person who gave me the heads up.

Nicole Scherzinger "Physical" Snippet

Here is a snippet of Nicole's track "Physical" produced by Timbaland from the actual movie the Fantastic 4: The Rise of the Silver Surfer. I have been holding out to post this because the quality is so bad and I was hoping a better quality snippet would leak. Nothing yet but here's the current snippet:

"Physical"

Look out for the HQ version hopefully really soon!

"The Way I Are" is a global hit

"The Way I Are" has not only been a hit in the United States but across the world. For the 2nd straight week it has been the #1 single in the UK after bumping off Rihanna's record setting "Umbrella." Read more:

****Super producer Timbaland continues to rock Kate Nash's Foundations - keeping her off top spot in the singles charts for a second consecutive week.

His collaboration with U.S. singer Keri Hilson, The Way I Are, is a non-mover at number one, while Rihanna, whose 10-week reign he ended in the charts last week, drops another place to fourth.****

Full Article

Along with the UK, here are the current positions for "The Way I Are" from around the world:

US #5
Sweden #2
Norway #9
Germany #8
Ireland #1
Switzerland #9
New Zeland #3
Turkey #1
South Africa #15
Sri Lanka #3

I can also report that Timbaland will be performing "The Way I Are" at the MTV Music Awards in the U.S. along with other snippets of songs that have yet to be announced. Guests? We'll have to wait and see what Timbo has in store for us.

So Why Was Tim Just a Bonus Track?

Check out this interview with M.I.A where she talks about working with Timbaland for Kala

************Pitchfork: Let's talk about the people who actually did play a part on this record. The song with Timbaland is particularly interesting, because that doesn't sound at all like a Timbaland beat to me.

M.I.A.: Yeah, he kind of made that beat on the day I got there. He was working quite leisurely, I thought.

Pitchfork: How'd you get him to do that? It's nice and light, he takes it kind of slow. Did he give you an array of things, or did he say "this is the beat" and you both agreed on it?

M.I.A.: He kind of made it there, while I was there, and it was like his old school stuff. But when I went there, he said he got really into Celine Dion and stuff like that. I don't know. He's a legend, though, and as a musician, I felt like I was dragging him through where he'd come from, you know, like the old school stuff. Making something more experimental, whereas he was going into areas that I knew more about, like he was going to work with Duran Duran and stuff like that. Timbaland was really amazing, but by the time I met him I already had most of the album done, so it was really difficult for me to make it work.

Pitchfork: That's why it's a bonus track?

M.I.A.: We kind of wrote poetry, I guess, I actually wrote that track for his own album and then we decided to share it, so I felt like it wouldn't make it but poetry or whatever. ************

Timbaland talks Madonna

As we told you here on The Chronicles Timbaland was in the studio with Justin Timberlake, Hannon, and Madonna a few weeks back and now he's talking to MTV about it:

****Tim says he and Justin wrote and produced 10 songs for Madge's LP, many of which will make the club jump.

"Ah, man," Tim gushed. "There's this one song, we taking it back to 'You must be my luck-eee starrrr!' ... Remember 'Ugly' by Bubba Sparxxx? I got a beat similar to that. The hook is no words. It's saying stuff named after coffee — all these different names for coffee — is the hook. ... The name of the song is 'La, La.' Pharrell did a hot one for her too called 'Candy Shop.' She's off the chain."

The production legend said there isn't a title for the opus yet, but he will be reconvening with the singer in September to finish it up. Other than Madonna, 50 Cent is the only other person outside of Tim's Mosley Music Group that he's worked with lately.****

So there you have it Pharrel did "Candy Shop" not Timbo. Tim and crew was also working with another artist while over in London. More on who that is in the next couple of weeks.

Timbaland & the VMAs

It had been reported to me a couple months back that Timbaland was to be the musical director for the MTV Video Music Awards and now it's official. Tim is at the helm and hand picked this year's acts to be performing which include Lily Allen, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Kanye West, Amy Winehouse, Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy, and Timbaland himself! I don't know yet which track he will be performing but as soon as I find out I'll let you know.

Also here are the nominations Tim and Company has recieved:

Nelly Futado (and Rihanna) - Female Artist Of The Year
Justin Timberlake - Male Artist Of The Year
Justin Timberlake - Quadruple Threat Of The Year
"The Way I Are" - Monster Single Of The Year
"Sexyback" - Most Earth Shattering Collaboration
"What Come Around Goes Around" - Video Of The Year
"What Come Around Goes Around" - Best Editing

So thankfully Timbaland did not produce "Jimmy." Now you're going to say "I told you Boogie, you were wrong." True I thought it was Tim and I based it on this article as well as multiple other sites that said so. I'm happy to be wrong on this track though.

Thanks to my man Rod for the info!

Bubba & Timbo reunited?

Working with Tim again is a possibility that Bubba is not ruling out and I'm sure Bubba and Timbo fans alike would love to see happen. Bubba has a new record in the works and will be releasing a mixtape Survive Till Ya Thrive August 17th off his label New South. Here's a recent interview with Bubba where he talks about his new project, his growing pains on Purple Ribbon, and the possible future with Polow's Zone 4.

Bubba Sparxxx on HiphopDX

****HHDX: Are you working with Collipark, Organized Noize, Timbaland…
Bubba Sparxxx: Yeah, all the usual suspects. I’ma try to get with Timbaland again. Even though I haven’t spoken to him in awhile, I’ma try to get with Tim. Polow [Da Don] will be on the album. Mr. Collipark, Organized Noize, and I’ma give a lot of up-and-comers a shot this time around. I can bring light to any beat. I don’t necessarily think that for me to have a hit record I need a superstar producer’s name attached to it.

HHDX: Now you mentioned Timbaland. He only produced 1 song on The Charm. And you weren’t on his album, Shock Value. So what is your guys’ relationship at this point?
Bubba Sparxxx: Really, we don’t have one at this point. I know if I see Tim it’s all love. I’ll always have the deepest amount of respect for him. But we don’t speak regularly. He works very closely with Polow. And Polow is like my brother. So I keep up with him thru Polow, and Attitude as well. Attitude is around Tim quite a bit. I keep up with him thru them. And he kinda keeps up with me thru them too.*****

Personally I think Bubba is a classic example of the ups and downs of the music biz. He releases his 1st album with a huge first single by an A list producer. Dude is mad creative, he's got the skills to boot, and gains acclaim from fellow MCs and fans alike. He releases 2 other singles all of which are unique in their own way and help his debut album go Gold.

On his 2nd album, Bubba goes all out with creativity. Bubba and Tim put their heart and soul into Deliverence and they've both said that many times. Though critically lauded as one of the best albums of the year (and one of the best Tim ever produced), commercially the album doesn't do well. Discouraged but still ready to give it a go, Bubba says "alright then if ya'll ain't feelin' me on the conscious tip I'll make some club bangers." He drops "Ms New Booty", track is HUGE, drops solid album, but yet again it doesn't do well by industry standards.

It's a classic example of even if the critics love you that doesn't mean your album will sale, or even if you work with huge producers it doesn't mean the fans will buy your music, or even if you put out a HUGE first single the label doesn't always have your back.

I agree with 100% with Bubba, he's top 10 in the South and add to that dude is a tenacious fighter who's still ready to put out new music despite his struggles. Instead of complaining about his past, Bubba's got his eyes on the future.

Props to Big A for the interview.

~Interview Week~ (Bonus Day)

Just when you thought you had heard the last Timbland interview, nope we actually have a few more for you. All of the interviews are from Z104 from various times. Check them out:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Tim on Z104 talking about first meeting Danja

I'm just imagining if we would have heard these Tim interviews back when they came out to get the news about the "Laff At Em" Remix. It would have been crazy! I can bet the other Jay track Tim talks about is the left off "Ain't I" from Shock Value. It would be interesting to know all of the track Tim made on his bus. Some LL tracks and now "Bounce" are the only ones I know of.

Danja on Z104

Danja and Mariah, Britney, and Missy that's big right there. Plus 13 tracks for Duran Duran? HUGE! The most interesting thing about the whole interview though is that Danja played "FutureSex/ Love Sounds" for Ludacris first but he passed (good decision). Time and time again Danja comes across as a really cool and humble guy.

Plus check their website for all the Z104 interviews. They have one with Nelly Furtado, Missy Elliott, Fab, and many others.

Props to Big A for the find.

Dima Bilan "Number 1 Fan" Remix F/ Sebastian

This track was just posted by Sebastian on his myspace check it out:

Dima Bilan "#1 Fan" Remix F/ Sebastian

Currently the #1 song in Russia :)

Artist Update: Money

Here is another idea coming to life with what I hope will be a long and continual series of Timbaland affiliated artist updates. There have been many producers, song writers, and artists who have embraced The Chronicles and have been cool enough to take the time out of their busy schedules to answer a few questions on their upcoming projects. We have been blessed to have some exlcusive interviews, news, and music and we plan on continuing to bring you all things Timbaland for many more years to come.

First up for our artist update series is Money who we exclusively featured on The Chronicles last month. She has recently updated her myspace with her bio (which I had the pleasure of writing) and 2 new track snippets "Touch" and "Check That Bitch". You can hear the Prince influence big time in all of her tracks as he has been a long standing inspiration for her. I even dare to say "Fantasy" samples Prince's "Rasberry Beret." Money is currently working with various producers and looking to have an album completed soon.

Money's Myspace

Stop by her page, take a listen to her tracks, add her as a friend, leave her a voice message if you want, and give her some feedback. She's working really hard to carve a unique niche for herself in the music world and she definitely is all about the fans so stop by and say what's up. Check back on her myspace soon for a video of her choreography. The Millenium Dance Complex in LA is one of the best dance studios in the world and they have produced legendary choreographers and dancers so as a pupil I'm sure Money got some skills!

What are your opinions on Money's new tracks?

~Interview Week~ (Day 5)

So here we've come to the last day of our interview week. In the midst of a VERY busy Timbo week, with Czar's amazing sample mix, some great Timstrumentals by Rod and Nick, and a new 50 video, I hope you all enjoyed these interviews. I plan to do some more themed weeks in the future so look out for them.

Ok I've talked about it since day #1 and now it's time to give it to you. Here's a recent interview Tim did yet again on BBC Radio 1Extra:

Timbo on Radio 1 (link is fixed)

Tim wants to sign Ginuwine? That's interesting to hear because there's been so many conflicting stories on their current relationship. A new track for Usher in the same vain as Fab's "Make Me Better"? Hmmm sounds really interesting to me. And I hope this is the last we hear of the Storch/Tim "beef."

Check the last minute of the interview, looks like the Justin, Nelly, Timbo, band is going to be a reality.

~Interview Week~ (Day 4)

Another day another interview and this one is definitely an interview we've never seen before. Timbaland breaks down the soundtrack to his life. From Rod Stewart to old school Prince Tim breaks down a few tracks:

****When I established my trademark sound

Another One Bites The Dust, Queen (1980)

It's just the bassline to this song that makes it - I thought it was incredible. That's when I realised that my job as a producer isn't just to shape songs, it's to come up with sounds. I'm associated with R&B but on the new album I've worked with everyone from the Hives to [Anglo-Indian singer] Amar to my new rock group OneRepublic, because I don't like to think in terms of categories but in terms of pure sound. 'Another One Bites the Dust' has one of the most innovative and powerful sounds of all time. Which is exactly the kind of thing that inspires me as a producer, not the image of the artist.****

Full Article

This interview should appeal to all you sample heads but that should go without question. Looks like I have a few rocks to look under myself. Czar are you reading this? I think you might be interested.

Look for tomorrow's interview where Tim talks about Ginuwine among some other goodies.

Video: 50 Cent "AYO Technology"

Featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. Looks like they've switched back to the original "AYO Technology" name. Check it out:

Thanks to April and Fonky. What does everyone think?

Keri Hilson performs new song "Slow Dance"

Check out this performance by Keri at Polow's Zone 4 party.

Still no confirmation on exactly who produced this..........yet.

Timbaland to work with Celine Dion

Timbaland has mentioned it before as well as MIA in he last interview but it seems to be confirmed that Timbaland will be working with Celine Dion on her forthcoming album. Check out this article:

****After putting Nelly Furtado ("Promiscuous") and Justin Timberlake ("SexyBack") on the top of the pop heap for most of 2007, Timbaland has teamed up with the multi-million-album selling singer for her upcoming fall release. It's a strategic musical makeover -- one that blends Dion's power ballads with hip-hop, R&B and rock tunes penned by R. Kelly, Ne-Yo and other artists.

Timbaland is a guy who's got a gift for writing catchy hooks and strong, catchy beats," says Corey. "The thing that makes him so interesting as an artist and a producer is that what he does is hip-hop, but not really. It's pop, but not really. It's hip-hop with a flair and that makes it appealing to listeners from either side of the fence."

Choosing Timbaland to revive Dion's career was a smart move says Corey. "At any given moment there is always one hotter-than-hot producer and Timbaland is definitely that at the moment. Working with Justin Timberlake put him right up there and frankly when you've got Justin singing over Timbaland's great beat you just can't lose."*****

Full article

I have to be honest I'm really on the fence about this decision. On one hand Tim is doing exactly what he said he wanted to do and that's do pop, break top 40 records consistently, and bring pop to the streets but when I think that Timbo has no qualms passing up opportunities to work with such visionary artists like M.I.A, who is really pushing the musical envelope right now, I have to wonder if we've lost the creative Timbaland forever. Your thoughts?

Props to April and my man Jono for this information.

~Interview Week~ (Day 3)

It’s a busy week here on The Chronicles, lots of great music and samples and in the midst of it all you’ve got some great Tim interviews. Continuing one with Interview Week, I bring you 2 Timbo interviews from Tim Westwood’s Radio 1 program. This first one is a rare gem from WAY back in the day. It’s actually a combination of 3 interviews into one. Though it’s a really long interview, it’s well worth the listen. Here are a few highlights:

- 50 Cent in the studio talking about wanting to work with Tim and freestyling on all sorts of Timstrumentals.
- “It’s very rare that I might sample”
- Blu Cantrell stops by and talks about her history with Tim, Devante, and Ginuwine
- “At one point in time I was getting like $400,000 [a beat]”
- ‘My greatest beat is “Can We” by SWV....that and “One In A Million"....when I think about it, it might just be “Pony”’

Timbaland on Tim Westwood #1

Fast forward a couple of years and Timbo stops by Radio 1 again and does another interview that's a lot shorter. He talks about Justin, Nelly, and the future for MMG.

Timbaland on Radio 1

Are all the stans taking notes? Here’s mine:

- The “Cry Me A River” Remix F/ 50 is NOT official
- 50 mentions an “O B” single Tim did with 50 on it that never made the airwaves. Could it be “Bad Bitch” or some other track 50 refers to as the “Hustla’” joint”?
- Tim made 70 beats for Missy’s “This is Not A Test”
- An instrumental of “Is That Yo Chick” plays which as far as I know is an extremely rare Timstrumental to find. (Rod what do you say?)
- Tim briefly says to check out the track D.O.E did with Missy. Hmmm
- Lil’ Kim denies a different Tim beat for her La Bella Mafia album.

Big props to my man 3000 for the link for the 1st interview.

Madonna "Candy Shop"

A very low quality snippet of a Madonna track called "Candy Shop" leaked last week. It was a media frenzy and a blogger's dream to say the least. As the dust settled, first reports said the track was produced by Timbaland and written by Justin Timberlake but then reports changed and the track was said to be produced by Pharrell Williams. After checking with various sources myself, there is no confirmation of who produced the track yet but none the less it does sound interesting. MTV had this to say about the track:

****Could a 17-second snippet of a song called 'Candy Shop' be a leak from Madonna’s upcoming album? Fans speculate that it’s of a track Madonna was working on with either Timbaland or Pharrell — but reps for none of the three camps would confirm.

'I have no comment about the song ’Candy Shop,’ ' Madonna’s longtime rep Liz Rosenberg told MTV News. 'Madonna has studio time booked and is continuing to work on her new CD. The songs are not mixed, and until that time, we can’t finalize the track list.' The yet-untitled album is due later this year. ****

Unfortunately due to possible legal action (Madonna is hard core when it comes to her tracks leaking) I can't post the "Candy Shop" snippet. However being the invesitagotor that I am, I can confirm that Timbaland, Hannon, Madonna, and Justin Timberlake were in London in the studio working on new music 2 weeks ago. From what was heard the tracks can only be described as yet a new sound for Madonna.

BossPlayya Presents the Timstrumentals of the Week

Back again w/ some Timstrus for y'all.

Now a group that been missin for a long minute now is Total. Kima, Keshia and Pam put out 2 successful albums w/ Bad Boy records in the 20th Century...they had a series of breakups and reunions...and breakups again...far as I know their status is in limbo right now.

But no matter what these ladies are doing now, they have the didstinction of teaming w/ Timbo on some undeniably nice records. Showcasin 2 of em this week.

First up is the classic WHAT ABOUT us off the Soul Food soundtrack in 1997. My fave track on that soundtrack, the extended version w/ Timmy rappin bout spendin Francs in Amsterdam (it was Guilders back then Tim!)was even better. To me this was Tim expanding on and perfecting what he brought w/ SWV's CAN WE at the top of that year. And when he drops in w/ the beatbox?! Crazy....

After that joint, they worked together again on WHAT THE DEALIO off the WHY DO FOOLS FALL IN LOVE soundatrck in 1998. But since they never put it out as a single and there i no instru available, let's fast forward to TRIPPIN.

The lead single to Total's sophomore album was officially produced by Missy, Darryl Pearson and Puffy, but boasted 'additional production' by TIMBALAND. Thats why it's here, you can hear Timmy's sound all in it. I'm an even bigger fan of the alternate mix that appeared on the maxi single, it has Timbaland on co-production.
