Timbaland Stops by "The Breakfast Club"

Well, it seems like Timbo is in high promotion mode. He recently stopped by "The Breakfast Club" (on Power 105.1 in NYC) to give one of the most in-depth interviews. He talks Jay-Z, Shock Value III (which he's also calling Ezekiel's Will), Missy, Magoo, unreleased Aaliyah records (and how he feels about Drake doing something on an Aaliyah song), who he ranks as the top hip hop producers of all time, his health and depression issues, and the politics of the music industry. Without a doubt, this is one of the dopest interviews (for me, though, his 2hr interview with Tim Westwood is my favorite). Check it out:

For those who've never heard the interview with Tim Westwood:

"N****s in Paris" - Timbaland Remix Live

Timbaland co-hosted a Holiday Party last week in South Florida, and decided to do a little remix to the Jay-Z and Kanye West hit song "N****s in Paris." Peep:

Always good to see Timbo having fun!

Czar's Sample Post of the Week: "Big Pimpin'"

As I mentioned in my "Put you on the game" lawsuit post HERE, someone recently reopened a copyright infringement lawsuit against Jay-Z, Timbo, and a slew of others, over the "Big Pimpin'" sample. Well, a federal judge in California ruled this week that the plaintiff, Osama Ahmed Fahmy, has standing to pursue the lawsuit. If my memory is right, this is the third lawsuit filed against Jay, Tim, et al, over "Big Pimpin'." While the other two cases were dismissed, this lawsuit might have some merit. Essentially, Fahmy is claiming that while Timbaland and Jay-Z did not violate the "economic rights" through sampling "Koshara" for "Big Pimpin'", he's using Egyptian copyright law to say that they violated the "moral rights" of the original composer of the track. You can read about the past lawsuits HERE (shout out to Big-A) and HERE (shout out to Wayne), a short and simple break down of the case HERE, and the full court documents HERE. I haven't read the documents, but when I do, I will give an update of my thoughts on the lawsuit. Only time will tell if Timbaland will beat this case again, or if his luck will run out.

What do y'all think about this? Let us know!

Unrelased Jay-Z F/ Chris Martin "Most Kingz" produced by Timbaland

DJ Green Lantern recently dropped his Invasion Radio 2k10 which contains the track Jay-Z "Most Kingz" featuring Coldplay's front man Chris Martin that Lantern produced but there's actually a really cool back sotry to the track. The vocals for this were originally recorded for Kingdom Come but it never made the album becuase the beat couldn't be found. Say what!?

As it turns out, pieces of the verses ended up on the 2006 Grammy Family freestyle on Hot97 with Funk Master Flex as well as Coldplay’s "Lost" (Remix). Lanterns went on to explain the accapella went floated around to many different producers including Timbo:

This is my version working with the acapella. I’ve had this since 2006 and it was supposed to be on the Presidential Invasion mixtape–that never came out. Then Hov rapped these lyrics over his HP commercial drums, and the acapella went to a few different producers in search of a beat for it. I heard a Timbaland version and I think Just Blaze and a few others had it too. But by the time they made Beach Chair, I think Jay was over trying to find a beat for Most Kingz. Then he went to Flex show and the rest is history

Here's Lantern's version:

Big props to Christoph for the info!

Jay-Z at Coachella

It was my first time to see Jay live and dude went off! The whole show was incredible, especially when he brought out Beyonce at the end but you know I got the chills when the bass guitar first hit in this song:

Top 10 Timbaland beat by far.

Kanye West, Jay-Z, and the possible alternate

Now this is very interesting, take a close look or rather listen to this video. Of course initially you'll be thrilled to see vintage Kanye West making a beat but what I really want you to pay attention to is the 2nd half of the video with Kanye rapping:

Do those lyrics sound familiar? Here they are:

Magazines call me a rock star, girls call me cock star
Billboard, pop star, neighborhood block star
Chi-Town go-gettin pimps, we mobsters
Gingerbread Man even said, "You're a monster!"
Yeah, that's how I feel
To be down, you must appeal
To the crew, we're rated R
O.C., O.G., Bobby Johnson son
Ask me, "Rey-Rey, is that yo' car?"
I seen MTV, I know who you are
You did "Takeover," do you got beef with Nas?
I did take over the game, brought back the soul
Got tracks to go, got plaques that's gold
Platinum to go, yeah that's the flow
All I, know, I gots the flow
And I don't play cause I'm from Chicago

Think. Think hard or just cheat and put them into google. What do you get? Surprised?

So the question is, whose beat is that? Kanye's? Or did Timbaland create an alternate beat that was never used for the final album? Or did Kanye like his verse so much from this session he saved it for the final Timbo produced track? A true mystery...

Big props to Tryfe on the find.

"Jockin' Jay-Z" versus Timbaland's Blueprint 3

I've been debating topic, should we mention this should we not? Is it worth discussing or not really? In the end I think it's definitely relevant and as always I enjoy everyone's opinions on the subject. Let's rewind to only a month ago when Timbaland made the big announcement that he was going to produce all of Jay-Z's next album. How hyped were you to hear the news? I know I was. Tim and Jay, everything they've ever done has been magic so to think of a whole album man that would be incredible.

But just like that only a couple of weeks later Jay-Z cleared up any absolutes for his album rather rolling with whatever sounds good and feels good will go on the album. "We [Timbaland and I] spoke about doing an album; it just was premature," Jay explained.

Then a week ago at his Madison Square Garden show, Kanye West brings Jay-Z out to perform the Kanye produced "Jockin' Jay-Z" with chants of Blueprint 3 followed by an insider report that Kanye West will be producing "most if not all of the [Jay-Z's] album" along with possible contributions by producer No ID.

So my question is: What happened in only a month? Was Timbo talking premature, building up hype for the possibility? Was "Jockin' Jay-Z" planned for Blue Print 3 all along or recorded just recently? Or is this all just talk and rumors and we should all just wait and see till the album comes out? What do you think?

And as a little side bonus: Wonder what the sample is on "Jockin' Jay-Z"? It's none other than Run DMC's "Dumb Girl". Keep listening, you should find an obvious sample to a popular E-40 track on there too. Hear it?

Timbaland and Jay-Z too good to be true

You knew it right? Deep down as much as you wanted it to be true and as much as you hoped it to be true, in the end it was all just unconfirmed hype. Jay-Z recently spoke with Rolling Stone and had this to say about his entirely Timbaland produced next album:

You know I love Timbaland, he is like a brother to me, but until the music is done it’s premature. I’m a person that works off music. If Timbaland makes 10 great tracks then he produces the album, if Kanye West makes 10 great tracks then he produces the album; if he makes three, I’ll take three. I let the music dictate the direction.

So the question or rather the challenge is: Can Timbaland produce 10 great tracks worthy of an entire Jay Z album? What do you think?

Timbaland to produce Jay-Z's next album

First new music and now some incredible news. Timbaland is looking to produce Jay-Z's entire next album! MTV sat down with Timbo who shared his thoughts on the forthcoming project:

He wants me to do the whole thing this time around. I'mma make it a classic too. You better believe it. It'll be a monster! I always say this: You get a first single from me, I'mma get you up to gold. And it's hard to get you up to gold in this day [and age].

Jay should never chill. We had a long talk, and I really talked to him. Jay-Z does it for the love. That's different. When somebody does it for the love, you don't stop. He has everything, but he's still current. A million people are buying his album regardless.

We wanna go to the world. The world is 'Big Pimpin'.' 'Big Pimpin' ' is an international hit, so we wanna do 10 of those. Meaning, some of the songs gonna sound like M.I.A. would rap on some of the beats. You gonna be like, 'Whoa!' But it's Jay on 'em. That means it reaches everywhere. I'mma have songs with bagpipes. The music is gonna be so worldwide, he'll be able to tour the rest of his life, maybe, off just this one album. The Jay-Z album is gonna be phenomenal. You know why? We don't care. We're doing great music just to do it. We doing it for our fans who love us to say we ain't quit. I'm doing it 'cause that's my homeboy."

Tour the rest of his life off just this one album? That's a big, bold statement so let's hope the album will be as incredible as Tim makes it sound. They haven't even gone into the studio yet and already Tim is talking like this. He must have some heat for Jay, bagpipes and all! Speaking of big albums, Timbo continued to praise his own work on the Chris Cornell album:

It's the best work I've done so far. I could be like, 'Wow. I really took it there. It beats Justin's album. Justin even said that. He listened to it and said, 'You did it again.'"

So Jay-Z and Timbaland, 1 entire album, what you think?

Despite "Ain't I" leak, DJ Clue says no Blueprint 3

When it comes to Timbaland and the crew, we try and stay that one step ahead of the rest. Case in point, MTV reported today that despite the leak of Jay-Z's Timbaland produced "Ain't I", the track is indeed an "old" track (left off Shock Value remember?) DJ Clue leaked the track for his Desert Storm Radio 8 (I Am Legend) mixtape and although he distinctly said "Blueprint 3" all over the track, Jay-Z has denied that this album is in the works....or has he?

Looks as though Jova called up Clue just to set the record straight. "That was the word on the street," Clue said about Blueprint 3 coming out. "I got the call [from Jay], but it's all good. It's all love. He was like, 'Yo, you can't be telling people the behind-the-scenes stuff.' So I chilled, laid back. [The mixtape] is still out on the streets. Go get it."

Let's hope someday we get the track DJ Free.

Jay-Z-"Ain't I" & Fabolous-"Hey Papi"

You heard it hear first! More info coming soon.

Download

**UPDATE**
The track was originally recorded for "Shock Value", but read this quote from this "Entertainment Weekly" article:
Around 3 a.m., a crisis arises. Tim receives news from New York that Jay-Z and his engineer Gimel ''Young Guru'' Keaton are nowhere near finished with their parts of Shock Value's ''Ain't I.'' Jay specifically canceled plans to escort Beyoncé to the Oscars just to polish it off. As 5 a.m. becomes 6, Tim and Demo grow increasingly nervous — the deadline to deliver the finished CD to Interscope is just hours away. ''It's crunch time,'' Tim says, wiping sweat from his forehead. But as the sun comes up, and Tim's publicist and other engineers lie passed out in sleeping bags on the floor, ''Ain't I'' remains incomplete. Despite its catchy hook — ''I'm a hustler's hustler/A gangster's gangster/Ain't I?'' — Tim has no choice but to eliminate it from his record. ''Jay-Z, that's my brother. He disappointed,'' he says. (Through his publicist at Def Jam, Jay-Z had no comment.)

We'd been hearing rumors about "Ain't I"'s existence for about a year now, officially posting a video clip back in April. I also received word of the track along with other "Shock Value" cuts all the way back in March of 2007!

As we can now see, Jay has turned the song into his own. The leak comes from DJ Clue's newest mixtape, entitled "I Am Legend, Pt. 1." Clue also references "The Blueprint 3"--could this mean a new Jay album?

And from the same mixtape:

More Jay-Z + Tim News

******** JAY-Z TIME

I heard Jay-Z had a nice little conference call with a bunch of media and some interesting things came out of it. We all know that American Gangster is coming out and we’ve seen tracklistings and whatever. Well, I heard that – in addition to the songs we know about – I hear that Timbaland might make the album. Kanye submitted two beats, but Hov didn’t take either. Also, there is the matter of “Dead Presidents III” and that song is FIRE – even though it is just a snippet. It sounds like a mythological update of the original. ********

Timbaland works with Missy & Jay-Z

Finally the news a lot of us have been waiting for: Timbaland is planning on re-uniting with Jay Z for his 2nd single. Timbaland recently told MTV "He wants me to do the next single," Tim said. "He just does it for fun. We talked about [his next album]. He says it's just a hobby, ain't nothing else to do. When a person tells you that, what you supposed to say? 'You crazy'? He said, 'I don't wait for nothing. I'm there. I'm doing it for the love of music.' What am I supposed to say? 'You wack for doing it'? ... Some people think Jay fell off. Or he's just over people's head. I think that's what it is. That's another thing: It could hurt him or it could make him be not the legend he is. That's the only thing I'm scared of for my friend."

If that wasn't enough Tim also is working with Missy on her new album though it won't be the whole thing. "I probably won't do the whole thing 'cause I gotta get my own thing up and poppin'," he said, referring to his Mosley Music Group label. "I can't make [Missy's recording home] Atlantic [Records] money. Nothing personal. We had a time and a crazy run, but I gotta get my own indie label poppin'. I couldn't do the whole thing. I had to do partial and try to oversee it the best way I can for her. But I can't make Atlantic a ton of money and leave Mosley Music with nothing. That don't make logical sense. Missy is my sister, but I got a family: Nelly [Furtado], Keri [Hilson], One Republic. If I don't function, then they don't function and they can't get their careers off."

Tim also talks about his liking of Super Tuesday competitions like the one 50 Cent and Kanye just had. He even talks about the possiblity of going against his "daddy" Dr. Dre. "I gotta go against my daddy," he said Friday from the ABC studios in New York, where the super-producer is filming a guest spot for the soap opera "One Life to Live." "I call [Dr.] Dre my daddy. To make it be some talk, I gotta go against my big brother. He's my big brother. [Who are] the two quarterbacks? Peyton Manning and Eli? When they have to go against each other, it's like, 'Do I really wanna go against my big brother?' Dre is my mentor. That would drive people to the stores. Like, 'Oh snap, Tim and Dre!' That would be big. I asked Jay-Z who he would go against. He said, 'The only person I would go against is my other homeboy: my friend Eminem.' "

Finally some long awaited good news for Timbo fans around the world!

Timbo not Jay's Kingdom Come.........why?

We all hearad that Tim was going to be on Jay's Kingdom Come album from last year but in the end he didn't make the final cut. Why after so many hits together and so much chemistry would Tim not make a Jay-Z album? We saw Jay in the Diary of Timbaland video on MTV, they said they were working together but Tim's track never made the album.

Well take a listen in Jay's own words at what happened:

Jay talks about Kingdom Come

Scroll down to the 2nd post titled "Jay-Z Wins The First Annual “Fuckouttahere” Award" and right under the picture you'll see where it says "Jay-Z takes a call from Marley Marl on Ed Lover’s radio show" Press play and you'll hear what Jay-Z, considered one of the best to touch the mic, has to say about where Timbo was at with his sound last year.

Timstrumental of the Week

Keepin the synergy goin at The Chronicles, last week Czar came w/ the sample for a great Jay-Z album track. I'ma keep it goin w/ the Timstru. To me this is the typa Tim track that just knocks so consistently it doesnt need to switch anything up too major, the beat just rides. Kanye West wishes he could do tracks like these...

Next, I'ma drop one of these every once in a while. Tracks that hardcore fans were convinced was Timmy. Or songs that have been highly debated over who did the track. Big Tank, Brian Kidd, Danja, Hannon and a couple other cats have been credited w/ Tim beats before, this is one of them tracks. Timbaland 'mixed' this one, but it's KIDDLEE responsible for it. Slum Village ft. Ms Jade & Raje Shwari. This sounds so good I wish Tim woulda did it.

Unreleased Jay-Z/Timbo "Ain't I"

We all read about it the track and I thought at first the "Give It To Me" Remix was Jay's unreleased track off Shock Value but no. It's actually this track:

Sadly it's pretty bad quality but the track does exist and it's just 1 of many tracks that didn't make the cut on Shock Value. Props to Nick and Vader for the teamwork!

Timstrumental of the Week

It's Timstrumental time. Seein' as how everybody is crazy excited bout that new Tim remix w/ Jigga on it, thought it'd be fitting to feature some Jay-Z/Timbo collabs. And seein' as how I'm postin this late...again...I'ma do a triple feature inspired by Grindhouse.

Arguably the best MC to work w/ Tim on a consistent basis, Jay-Z is the guy that gives Timbaland beats that 'extra' factor that guys like Pastor Troy and uhh Baby (of Cash Money) unfortunately can't. It's a lotta Tim tracks where everybody gets to say "...but at least the beat is tight." Not so w/ Mr. Carter, the dude got a ear for beats and when Timbo makes him a track, he always brings his A-game.

This week I chose 3 Jigga tracks. Jigga What Jigga Who, off 1998's HARD KNOCK LIFE, the first Timbo produced single Jay put out. A classic hard hittin Timbo track.
Next is my favorite beat that Tim did for Jay. Hey Papi, words can't describe how much I love this joint, it was my soundtrack to summer 2000. And the end when Timmy just lets the beat ride?! Or when the strings from Can We turn up?!

Last but definitely not least is Dirt Off Your Shoulder, Jay's last Timmy produced single to date. Can't believe four years have passed since the song was featured on THE BLACK ALBUM. Love this track too. It's also amazin' to see how Timbaland evolves musically yet retains that signature Timbo style.
