Timbaland to quit music.......but there's more

Something we pride ourselves on here at The Chronicles is accurate and reliable sources for our news about Tim. What could be mistaken for solid news on the net from a reliable source may truly not always be the case. We all read the article about Timbaland planning to retire and saying he is "I’m too innovative for the world” and we all had our opinions about it. It's all over the net right now. Take a look here, and here , and here , and on Yahoo News here . These are all reliable sources right?

In addition, as of late there have been reports of Tim being a germophobe, flying only private planes due to the amount of germs. You can read about it here , here , here , and even here on Yahoo News again, for the UK. These are reliable sources aren't they?

Well in truth we aren't getting either of the entire stories about both Timbaland wanting to retire and Timbaland's germ phobia rather these so called reliable sources from multiple websites are taking the most news worthy quotes and lines from just ONE article. Here take a look at this FULL article from Channel U in the UK. Here are some highlights:

****Mosley, suffering from a bout of flu, seems stiff and awkward: between snuffles and grunts he looks like a mildly grumpy bulldog.

“Your health is more important than everything else,” he says, struggling through the symptoms. “I fly private so I can stick to one aircraft rather than have to sit with a bunch of people coughing and sneezing: that way I know what I’m dealing with. But you can’t get better if you don’t rest, and I’ve been going constantly, nonstop.”

The irony is lost on him as he pushes himself through the ardours of the all night video shoot. And yet, as he acts out his guy-chasing-girl routine with the glamorously disdainful Hilson and mimes to the same first verse of his next single, The Way I Are, he begins to look as though he might just be enjoying himself.......................

All this chopping and changing personas, and crafting music for A-list artists who are always demanding something a few steps ahead of today’s trends, seems to be taking its toll.

“I don’t need to do anything for money,” Mosley says. “I’m just glad to have a job. But music is boring right now. I’m too innovative for the world. I’ve been doing it so long, I’m about to throw in the towel.” He arches his right eyebrow, checking to see if this titbit has hit its intended target.

“I’m about to decrown myself and pass it over to one of the up-and-coming producers under me,” he continues. “They won’t be able to be me – there’s only one Timbaland – but there’s a certain sound that I try to teach.”

And then he’s off again, talking about producing some tracks for the rock band One Republic, the flu – and thoughts of retirement – seemingly cast aside in the rush to enthuse. “I just wanna make people happy,” he says, finally allowing the tiniest glimpse at the source of his motivation. “I like doing shows, entertaining people. I can’t make ’em happy – I’m not God, and only God can control your emotions and your moods. I just like to be a part of their mood swings: that’s what I like, and that’s why I love my music.” *****

Just adding the additional lines which I have put in italics creates adds a different demention to Tim's statements. If you notice they have been strategically deleted as they have been re-posted on other news sites. I find it amazing how so called reliable news and music sites from around the globe can just take one or two lines from a full 15 paragraph article and spin it in any direction they want. Is Tim a germaphobe? Possibly be but he's also giving the interview with the flu, though despite that he pulls an all nighter for the video shoot in good spirits. Was Tim's "I'm too innovative for the world" comment out of line? Possibly yet at the same time Tim talks about wanting to make people happy, entertain them, and be a part of their moods through his music.

In today's age of internet websites and blogs anyone can write a "factual" story without bothering to check their sources, rather they just want an audience, they want some sensationalism. That's not how true journalism should be, rather it should rely on fact. This article is a great example of what it means to really understand the overall perspective of the context in which Tim was talking about his views on retirement and germs versus reading re-posted quotes from his most over-the-top comments.

We don't always get it right on The Chronicles but we try hard to make sure we are providing the most factual Timbaland information out there. Just seeing how one article can turn into a huge negative publicity fiasco has really made me think about what kind of information is being presented on the net. Plus in a format that would lead one to think of it as truth whether it be from someone's personal blog or yahoo.com when in reality it's not. It's a good lesson for all of us to not always believe what we read.

  4. Whether it's uncovering sample sources or the truth in reporting, thanks for always striving to get it right, TCC. Big ups to all of you. This is a great example and reminder of media spin that you've pointed out.

  5. Timba was interviewed on Radio1 only yesterday, and again sounded full of a cold, but clarified that he suffered from allergies, hence needing to keep dressing rooms dust free - and he's right about planes - they are a total breeding ground for spreading illness, due to the confined air space - and regards the gold microphone, perhaps like myself, he has sensitive skin and gets a bad reaction to cheap metals.... so yes there always more than 2 sides to every story, juno
