Ashlee Simpson gets 6 from Timbaland

Even the people you didn't see were making the news in Las Vegas over last weekend. Ashlee Simpson had a sneak peek preview of her new album coming out in November. Here's the article:

****Hanging out at the recording studio on the third floor of the Fantasy Tower at the Palms Casino Resort, Simpson has her recording crew keeping her company, from Timbaland — who pops by for a hug — to Jim Beanz, J Roe and King Logan. "These are my boys," she says as an introduction. Meanwhile, a new sound from Ashlee is banging on the speakers, a more tribal, dangerous, seductive sound, filled with beats and synth lines. "Here, in the dark, is where I find the light," she sings, in a slow, slinky way. "I've got a monkey on my back, get it off," she then sings in a near-rap. "I get away with murder," she drawls. Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes sneaks in a rap about how she has "diplomatic immunity."

The song is called "Murder," and it might be her first single. It's one of six songs she recorded in Los Angeles over the past few months with VMA maestro Timbaland and crew, while she has seven others completed with Chad Hugo of the Neptunes and Kenna. The Timbo tracks — the ones she previews at the Palms, at least — make it sound like a reinvention (à la what the producer did for Nelly Furtado) is in the works. One non-Timbaland track, "Follow You Wherever You Go," is what her father Joe calls her "Broadway thing" — a jazzed-up number inspired by her work in the West End production of "Chicago". Ashlee might call her alter ego Vicky, but there's a bit of Roxie in her now too.****

Here Ashlee talks briefly about the project with Jim Beanz at her side:

You can also hear a snippet of the Timbaland produced track "Murder".

Now while MTV gives you the surface, The Chronicles takes you deeper. Yes Jim Beanz is working on the project and you can bet he will only continue his ingenious vocals and vocal production for the pop star. 6 tracks from Timbaland? Actually it's King Logan of The Royal Court who will be producing those 6 tracks with Tim co-signing including "Murder" which I think is a giant step forward for the King, showing that he can break out of the Tim's sound and create his own. We'll definitely be giving you more news about this porject as it becomes available.

Big thanks to our weekly contributor Bigmac for the article.

  3. "Murder" is a fitting title, because that's what Ashlee did to this song - she murdered it. Had this had been in the hands of Nelly Furtado or Gwen Stefani, it would've sounded HOT! They have the vocal delivery and swagger to carry a track like this off. But in Ashlee's hands it sounds terrible. Tim needs to realize he can't give one person's sound to everybody. It doesn't work for Ashlee at all. *thumbs down* As Tims aid about "Gimme more" - it's flat line.

  4. They produced the six songs together ain't no way tim wasn't involved but he is letting them showcase their skills more and more now, all the hating people give tim for taking all the credit it seems the opposite he gives plenty of opportunity to his camp. I want to see what he has for chris brown, cassidy, jennifer hudson.

  8. i say this is justin's "justified" part 2...... :D timbo (and co.) vs the neptunes (or one half at least). Ppl usually sleep on chad all the time but his upcoming projects will giv him a chance to cum out in the open musically. he will neva be a boaster like tim or pharrell. he's one of the few modest/humble ppl left in music.

  10. The Chad/Pharrell thing almost reminds me of the Timbo/Danja thing. Chad is crazy humble.
The crazy thing is The old Neptunes stuff is a lot better than Pharrell's solo stuff. Which makes me think Chad was more the genius. I'd love to hear Chad's new stuff, because it seems like the Neptunes or better yet, Pharrell fell off with out him.

  11. Come on Timbaland, don't become the Lil Wayne of Production aka working with anyone who will pay you or the Wal-Mart of beats.
You worked way too hard to build your name.
Be smarter about who you associate your name with, even if it's an associate doing the beat. :P

I agree. It's crazy how you only realize what an impact somebody has when they go. I was always under the impression that Pharrell did everything, but given his recent solo productions it's clear Chad did have a major influence. Chad reminds me a little of Danja, in that he injects the more alternative sound into tracks he works on. I loved the joints Chad did for Kenna's debut album. "Free time" is my shit! I would've loved for Chad to have produced tracks for Nelly Furtado's "Loose". I think his sound would've complemented Tim and Danja's.

  15. In a way i want Tim solo to be the Lil Wanye of productions too many songs he produced got cut off albums i was anticipating. Chad is mad underrated, i don't mind Tim & Pharrell getting the attention they were so humble for the longest time i won't get mad if Danja or Chad started to do the same.
