Chris Cornell talked with MTV about his new album Scream due to be released in the fall. There are definitely mixed reviews about the snippets heard so far with some longtime Cornell fans seemingly disappointed in what they've been hearing. Seems as though a Cornell and Timbaland collaboration sounds well just as it would seem: Chris Cornell singing over a Timbaland beat and that fact has been greeted with ambivalence from fans.
Yet despite any fan reservations, Cornell agrees that it his best work of his career and has said the fan response he has gotten have been "really good." Cornell also talked about how he met Timbaland and how Tim didn't want to do just a few songs rather an entire album with the rocker. "He was super into that ... and we got into the studio and made a whole album," Cornell said of the LP, which they wrote and recorded in six weeks. "But then we went off in this direction of musically, sort of conceptually tying the whole thing together [so that] it almost harkens back to albums that I listened to when I was a kid, where the music never stops. It's really an album-oriented album."
Cornell also shared his high praises for Timbaland,He's somebody who's also a musical genius and a songwriter and records in very unorthodox ways. ... He's sort of reinventing the way he does things at the same time as working with an artist. You can't compare him to anyone. You can read the full article on here.
In addition, Chris Cornell stopped by New York's 101.9 and played 5 songs for the radio station including 2 tracks we haven't heard yet "Never Far Away" and "Scream." Check it out here along with a 5 part podcast of the interview.

ReplyDeleteomg i like scream & never far away!!!!!!! those beats are kwl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the intro with long gone is amazing as so with ground zero :D:D i like it :D:D yayayayayyayayayayayayayayy
ReplyDeleteI think they should have focused more of a rock theme, than pop. I think it the music is similar to his past things because that's when the made it. It sounds nice, but Timbaland needs to make sure whatever comes out is DIFFERENT due to his hype. I want to hear some rock influenced beats/music from Chris Cornell. Im a fan of Timbaland's productions and music, but I thought by the way he was talking, he was going go "out there"; where not many go.
ReplyDeleteCant wait to hear how these songs fit together, this sounds intresting.

those tracks absolutely give me NOTHING
ReplyDeleteThe album as a whole... had better be top notch. Old Mister Mosley has his work cut out for him. So does Chris Cornell. He is also to blame if the beats and lyrics don't come across as interesting; it's HIS album.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the sound - but even still, I don't think we've even got a clue, really, the way Chris talks about it...I can hardly wait to hear the CD IN FULL, as it's meant to be heard!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not such a huge fan of Timberland, but I do like what I've heard in these songs. Chris Cornell does have a knack for being able to write a great song. I can't wait to hear the album from beginning to end.
ReplyDeleteCornell has always been good at whatever he does and is never scared to experiment with his music and push the boundaries. I admire him for that.
ReplyDeleteI admire him for that also. It is easier said than done to take risks. I also really like what I've heard so far. I got to hear Long Gone and Watch Out live on the Projekt Revolution tour and they both sounded awesome! I'm excited to hear the entire album!
ReplyDeleteChris sounds amazing on these songs! It just shows you that he can sing any type of song! He takes risks and doesn't continue to produce the same music over and over again. I love it!
ReplyDeleteGood on Chris for making this move. Don't know why old timers keep dissing his new work, sure the instrumentals are different but I mean his lyrics are still amazing, his voice is still beautiful... but that's their loss I guess.
ReplyDeletePersonally I am looking forward to his new album Scream, can't wait.
