Who Flipped It Better: Timbaland Vs. Alchemist

For our latest installment of this series we compare 2 very different producers who've used the same sample but flipped it both in their unique style of production. First up let's take a look at a classic Timbaland track from 2001 specifically titled for it's sample. Here is:

Timbaland & Magoo "Indian Carpet"

The Alchemist must have also liked what he heard when he first heard the original track as he too flipped the same sample for a track off of Guru's Baldhead Slick & Da Click album called:

"I'm Here" F/ Killah Priest, Black Jesus, & Timbo King (ironic??)

Another interesting tidbit, both of these albums came out within only 2 months of each other. Of course that doesn't say anything about when each track was bad but still interesting none the less. Ok 2 producers, 1 sample, who flipped it better? Bonus: What is the sample?

Big A with the big I mean good ears :)

  4. Timbo: He did so much more for this beat. Would b nice to hear Killah priest , & Black Jesus. over his beat. Timbo brought some dark shit to that beat.

  7. Timbo's is smoother, of course. But Alchemist's has a nice, loose, gritty feel that I prefer with this particular sample.

  17. Alchemist's version is so fucking boring. I love grimy NYC beats but Alchemist is so overhyped. Kids get on his dick so bad. He obviously has some a large amount of dope tracks but he also has a shitload of boring mediocre pieces of shit. His approach is quantity over quality.

For those with superior taste, Tim's obviously version takes it.

  19. Alchemist's track is equivalent to a a dead pet rock.

Sooooo boring! Can you say boring loop? Looping is OK but, not when it is dry off beat and just plain boring.

    Timbo killed it.... nough said.

  27. Tim get's this one.
Alchemist's beat rarely changes, but Tim has almost always made every single measure different than the last.
