With his new album Not 4 Sale looking to be released this summer and his single "Dangerous" rising up the charts, you'd think that's all there would be to talk about with Kardinal Offishall. Yet when you say you've worked with Timbaland, as Offishall has admitted, people just don't forget. We covered this story just last week and now more details are emerging as to why Offishall chose to pass on this yet-to-be-released. Here's what he had to say in a recent interview with XXL:
XXL: Your second album, The F-Word Theory had Timbaland listed as one of the producers. We did get to hear a few tracks, but never got to hear the Timbaland record, though.
Kardinal: Never will probably. We did it. It was dope at the time, but the person I am…really the reason why the album is called Not 4 Sale is really and truly that’s really what I believe. If I really believe in something, the dollar figure that’s attached to it will not sway what I feel about it. It was a dope record, but it’s not timeless. It’s not a Timbaland record that can come out now and stand up to what Timbaland is dealing with now. So although it’s a Kardinal and Timbaland joint, it’s just one of those things where unfortunately that $100,000 check went down the toilet at the time. For that album we had joints with Busta, Pharrell, most of it was me, but for that album that never came out, I had gotten to work with a lot of people.
I still have my fingers crossed though. Props to Big A on the eagle eye.

a couple years back a timbo beat was worth 'only' 100k? it all changes so quick
ReplyDeletewhy get people tim for their albums and then cut the tracks????
ReplyDeletesame thing with wayne, usher and propably busta....
i thought the music industry is in a "crisis" because of downloads and leaks but it seems that they have enough money to throw a track away that costs more than the album will make
there is a rumour on some forum that usher+timbo+justin will be on the shock value 2 tracklist
ReplyDeleteThats because its all horseshit. You have to look at who's in the studio to leak the record. Its not like the janitor sneaks in and steals a copy to leak. The record execs are behind it because its cheaper to release music digitally instead of pressing up millions of cd's and booklets. If artists stop acting like they got money to burn, when they just spent their whole advance on a Timbaland beat then, shit I forgot what this rant was about, anyway if the industry is in a slump its because they keep letting "rappers" like Soulja Boy get on, not only that, but nobody is original any more. People think just because they get Tim on the beat their shit is gonna blow, but whatever buy it, burn it, share it or don't just support.
ReplyDeleteMe as a fan i don't care leak the tim song if you ain't gone use it or put it on a mixtape as i hope wayne will do and hopefully usher pairs up with jt over a timbo track and for busta still love that beat tim made oh well another one bites the dust.
ReplyDeleteSo do artists still have to pay for the beat even if its not used on the album?
ReplyDeleteHe says the record isn't timeless? Does he realize that a lot of people aren't even hip to his name? If you mention, people would be like "is that new bird they discovered?". Having Timbaland on your album is a good look.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a bad move, but whatever. Spend $100,000 on a track just to toss it, but then complain that the internet is what is screwing up the industry... get the hell out of here.
if i spend 100,000$ on a track....
ReplyDeleteit's going to be on the album, track one and the lead single.
who is Kardinall Offishall i mean really, Tim has really bought the best out of people look what Tim and danja did for Nelly, JT, countless others, this guy is just lame and to spend 100k for a beat and not use it, man that beat would be on the album but then again he might just ahve the money to do that

ReplyDeleteYeah Aight....I need to get my beats poppin so I can Make 100,000 in 1 day.
