Ginuwine "Doesn't Like" Timbaland?

This is so sad to read. In an interview with Vibe Magazine Ginuwine opens up about his current relationship with Timbaland:

He [Timbaland] really hasn’t been interested in working with me, so I can’t speak on the present. But back in the days, it spoke for itself as far as him being the most sought after producer. Music was boring until he came out with that new sound. Back then, I would have described it as futuristic because it was something that had not been done and people jumped on it. If it wasn’t for him making that style as hot as it is, a lot of producers that’s out now maybe wouldn’t even be here.

Ho goes on to talk about his disappointment in Timbaland's lack of support on G's latest album A Man's Thoughts which Timbo produced the joint "Get Involved":

Me and Tim were real close at one point. A lot of the times that I reached out, there were a bunch of excuses. I begged and pleaded with him because I felt a certain way but I was like, is it just a bad vibe that I’m picking up on? Maybe I’m bugging out, I don’t know. But it came out to be true and I still feel like he owes me an apology for that. The reason I’m pissed off at him now is because of what he did. I would’ve been cool and not bothered him if he would’ve said, ‘Nah, I’m too busy,’ or gave me the lame excuse like he’s been giving me. But don’t do it and then not do what you’re supposed to do [to promote the song].

Despite the friction though G still has a lot of love for Tim and still thinks he'd win out in a producer battle royale:

I would have to go with Tim. I’m still a man. I’m not gonna not say the truth just ’cause I’m mad at you. [Laughs] He’s one of the best producers ever to me. Pharrell actually came up behind him. And the only reason I said Polow [in the first round], I’m looking at it on a level of what’s out now. But as a whole, there’s no one that can touch Timbaland.

And what of Timmy selling out? G gives it to us straight up:

I don’t know about the sold out thing. I think any smart businessman would go where the money is bigger, but I also feel like you don’t forget your roots either. You don’t alienate the people that helped you and started you out… What is it about me now that you just don’t like? And if it is something, say it. I can take truth. I can’t take that kind of stuff and right now I don’t really like him. I really don’t. That’s not being a man.

It really bums me out to read this interview from a man who rolled with Timbo since the beginning. It makes me wonder if this is the same way Missy Elliott feels? And others from the Da Bassment days. What do you think, has Timbaland sold out? Is it all about the money? Or is Ginuwine just angry that his career isn't as hot as it once was? Leave a comment and let us know.

  1. I don't think he's sold out cuz he's always said it that he wanted to do pop music and not just be that hip hop producer. But when it comes to going back to your roots and treating those that you came up with wrongfully then that's worst cuz peeps like that aren't just friends, they're family. If this is how tim is acting then he just shut down family which means i lost some respect. Tim is the best but he ain't as hot as we know him! GO BACK TO YO ROOTS TIMMY T!

  2. wow that is really sad to hear. I do have alot of sympathy for Ginuwine. I mean why would Tim simply dismiss the great chemistry they had together?? If Aaliyah were alive today, would Tim be acting in this way? People talk about the great work he did with Aaliyah but I feel his work with Ginuwine is just as good. It's quite surprising on Tim's part how he would all of a sudden show a lack of respect, I mean dont know the man personally so who knows there maybe more to it than that. We dont know the whole truth behind this rift.

"I think any smart businessman would go where the money is bigger, but I also feel like you don’t forget your roots either"

This qoute sums it all up for me. It IS about money. You hear about Tim now saying he just picks up his pay cheque and his work is done, maybe it's not about the music anymore or maybe Tim has lost interest and is obviously looking for fresh sound so Ginwuine is not the ideal artist for him nowadays who's also lost some of his appeal. So now you have Tim going for the most recent established artists where your likely to earn more money. Apparently Ginwune said before that he did a few more tracks with Tim for his last album but Tim nowadays is charging major bucks for his beats so there you have it - Money talks at the end of the day.

  4. I've always wondered what Tim's music would be like now if Aaliyah was still with us and what effect she would have had on his direction.

I just can't imagine Aaliyah singing on some techno/pop beat. Then again I have her frozen in time on a stutter beat.

  5. J, we all have her frozen in time on a stutter beat.

The click would still be together for reals. At least more together than now... their is no superfriends anymore.

I'm sorry but never in hell would Aaliyah be on no tecnho synth beat. I've been studying the Aaliyah cd and that mess she was with was for the 3000's. It still sounds 110% unique and better than anything (including tim;s stuff) that is out today. The tracks she did with Tank were incredible. That's where Hip hop was going with Rock. She was a trend setter... she showed Tim how to set trends.

IDK if y'all gonna agree with me but I'm just on some other stuff (not that stuff) right now just thinkin about how music was when they were all doing it. Most of their stuff in 1997 sounds like the year 2050. TIMELESS!!!! I understand now what hey were saying "Not the year 2G, but the year 3G". It wasn't for that time but for the future. Tim's production doesn't have that timeless anymore.

I'm finally saying it! I'm forever gonna be reppin tim til there is no more Tim, but as of now... he's been disappointing me. This interview just topped it off

  7. I think it speaks to the single "Get Involved" that I had barely remembered it existed.

    Ginuwine, one word: Danja.

  8. Man yeah I mean Ginuwine seems like a decent guy and I agree with most of what he said. Get Involved was boring and lazy, a bit of hype at first because it's ginuwine and tim... But come on.. Shit.

And on the aailyah front, obviously timbo sound would be different, but as Boogie said I can't see Aailyah on a techno beat that timbo has been dishing lately.

Yeah fred, danja would deliver but that (old) Timbo/ginuwine chemistry is priceless...

  9. I don't think Tim will allow himself to settle and get chemistry with any other artist anymore. Last time we saw a long-standing chemistry was with him and Justin Timberlake... right after the Madonna album, the two went running separate ways, only to return on "Carry Out", which didn't really showcase their synergy well.

Though, to be fair, Tim and Justin did have a couple years' break from Justified to FS/LS.

And, notice what Tim and Chris Cornell have become... nothing. In this respect, I'll say that I admire what Danja is doing with NARS, sticking with his boys from high school and his hood, making good music.
